Changing Lives:

One Girl, One Boy at a Time

The issues most likely to interrupt young Tanzanian students’ education are well known: menstrual health hygiene, early pregancy, early marriage, and violence against women and children.

Our educational campaigns take a deep dive into the heart of these issues through a unique lens: emotional wellness, mental health, and self-advocacy.

We believe that these are the most powerful tools young people can be given in their fight to finish school.

Our campaigns operate in Primary, Secondary, and University Schools

Our programs lead students through transformative educational experiences concerning:

Our current projects include:

Mimi ni Tai: Menstrual Health Hygiene & Management (from 2020)

Our 90-Minute Menstrual Health Hygiene and Management Campaign is called “Mimi ni Tai,” or “I am an Eagle,” because eagles are known to have excellent, long-range vision, to be high-flyers, and to never give up.

In a culture where girls are largely invisible—and their future can be stopped by things like period poverty—we want all of our girls to be instilled with the belief that they are capable of flying high. Our Mimi ni Tai Campaign takes a holistic approach to managing periods in complex environments, with readily available resources. We learn about our beautiful body and how to manage its changes, and how to be safe—and comfortable—using the materials girls are most familiar with, and most likely to continue using. We learn though stories, shared experience, laughter, and hands-on learning activities. Being a woman is hard work, after all, but learning about it doesn’t have to be.

The Last Kilometer: Anti-Dropout Campaign (from 2022)

Our Anti-Dropout Campaign is named “The Last Kilometer” because the issues we address play a huge role in a child’s ability to go the distance in the most important years of their education.

The Last Kilometer campaign targets critical issues that are well known to impede or hinder children’s ability to finish school: early childhood marriage and pregnancy, violence against women and children, and menstrual health hygiene.

We address these issues through a lens of mental health and emotional wellness, because we believe that they drive human behavior and lasting change.
